Our Favourite Family Days near Inveraray

Just a 35-minute drive from Drimysnie Estate Holiday Village, 22 minutes from St Catherines and under an hour’s drive from any of our 8 holiday parks, Inverary should definitely be on your visit-list during your stay with us! From activities in the charming Argyll town itself, to lots of fun days out in the surrounding areas, there’s enough inspiration here to fill many a day with fun!

Inverary Castle (Reopening 28th March 2022)

Imposing 1700s Inverary Castle is a mere spring chicken compared to the original which stood in its place in the 1400s. Take a tour of its opulent 3 floor interior, explore the gorgeous gardens, and then enjoy spot of refreshment in the tearoom.

If you feel like stretching your legs after your café visit, you can walk from the castle car park up to Dun na Chuaiche. It’s a steep 1.5mile walk to the 18th century watchtower but at the top of the hill you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views across Inevrary, Loch Fyne and the surrounding glens.

Tickets for Inverary Castle are available on their website. Get 10% off when you show your accommodation key.

Inverary Jail

Going to jail has never been so much fun! Kids and adults alike will be enthralled by this living museum which recreates what life would have been like for inmates back in the 1800s. Downloadable audio guides for you phone let you hear from real characters from the Jail’s past. There are gory details aplenty and a courtroom where you can imagine what it would have been like to be sentenced to prison.

Fyne Ales

This family-owned farm brewery draws water from the surrounding Argyll hills to brew a wide variety of ales in their converted farm buildings. You can pop in any day 10am-6pm for a drink at the Brewery Tap, or in their Courtyard beer garden. The Brewery Shop is open the same hours and you might even find some beef or venison from the family’s herds too.

They have a shop and takeaway beer from the Brewery Shop. Please note we are not running any at the moment.

Brewery Tours have not yet returned to operation. Keep an eye out for their return – there’s an Argyll Holidays special rate waiting for you when they do.

Crarae Garden

Crarae Garden is 10 miles south of Inveraray, just off the A83. It has a reputation as Britain’s finest example of a Himalayan-style garden. The Crarae Burn flows through the middle of it and it’s a great place to explore, with wooden bridges, rocky gorges and an incredible collection of trees and shrubs that provide a spectacular display whatever time of year you visit.

Ardkinglas

The Woodland Garden of Ardkinglas Estate is open all year round from dawn to dusk and is situated on the shores of Loch Fyne in Argyll, against an incredible background of mountain and forest. It covers about 4800 hectares and has an outstanding variety of plants and trees, including a rhododendron collection started in the 1920s and a number of ‘champion trees’ which are some of the tallest or broadest of their species in Britain.

It’s a perfect spot for trying to catch a glimpse of some Scottish wildlife from red squirrels to red deer, and you can look out for a different kind of creature on their Gruffalo trail.

Tours of the house will resume in 2022. Keep an eye out for their return. Exclusive Discount: 10% Off Tours - Simply flash your accommodation key! (Book in advance)
