From Kitchen Porter to Go Active Supervisor

Aidan was just 16 years old when he joined the Argyll Holidays team as Kitchen Porter. Since then Aidan has worked his way up and now holds the role of Go Active Supervisor.

Throughout the seven years that he's been with the company, he has completed courses, gained qualifications and won awards for his outstanding work.

We caught up with Aidan to find out some of the reasons he loves being part of the A-Team.

"I am lucky enough to work in such a beautiful location. I have worked at both Hunters Quay Holiday Village and Drimsynie Estate Holiday Village and both have such amazing scenery nestled in amongst the mountains of Argyll. The views never get old!

I have also been fortunate to have worked with some amazing colleagues, many of whom I now call friends, throughout the whole company. There are some who have moved away to different countries or onto different career paths and yet we still keep in contact as though we still live together.

As I progressed to the role of Go Active Supervisor I completed many courses through Argyll Holidays. These courses provided me with qualifications to enable me to fulfil my role today.

When I look back on my time at Argyll Holidays, it amazes me how far I’ve come. From pot washing in the kitchen after school, to moving to Drimsynie to join the Go Active entertainment team, to moving back to Hunters Quay and becoming Senior Instructor and running the department in this tricky time after lockdown. None of this would have been possible without my managers and the Argyll Holidays team supporting me every step of the way.

You would think doing the same sessions day in day out for the last five years would get boring however no two days are the same. Yes, the sessions may be the same, but the guests change. Different guests at every session make every day interesting and unique.

During my time as a Go Active Instructor, I won the Hoseasons Instructor of the Year Award two years in a row. I was selected from a list of instructors from the 17 Go Active parks across the whole of the UK. What an achievement! This is without a doubt the proudest moment of my career. I was shocked enough to win it once, never mind twice in a row.

My advice to anyone looking to join the friendly and supportive Argyll Holidays team is to keep checking the recruitment section on the website to find the perfect role for you."
