There was no missing the iconic Land Rover defenders as they pulled in to pick us up from Loch Lomond Holiday Park. Our guides for the day were Iain and Keith who arrived dressed to impress in their kilts. Keith and Iain were on hand to guide us on how to do the driving, how to tackle the extremely challenging terrain and where we’d be stopping to take in the most breath-taking views of Loch Long and Loch Lomond.

Trips with 4x4 Adventures Scotland are like having a friend show you round. A friend with snacks, that is, as they have biscuits and water for the trip already in the Land Rovers. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled as you drive, other passengers have been known to spot deer, stags, pheasants, buzzards, osprey, golden eagles, sea eagles and highland cows! However, we only managed to spot Glen, the lovely dog who lives on Glen Douglas who was as delighted to see us as we were him!

Moving on from cute dogs, biscuits and banter, driving off-road is an experience unlike any other. As we climbed up Glen Douglas we took in some spectacular views, stopping off to get a fantastic view of Loch Long. Then it was our turn! Although at first it can be a bit daunting getting behind the wheel of such a large vehicle, your guides are on hand to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible – even on the rough terrain. Driving off-road is a lot different from driving a regular car, and at some points you feel like your learning to drive all over again! Only this time - in a Land Rover!

4x4

4x4 Adventures offer various types of tours. They range from 90 minutes to 4 hours, and have a maximum of six people per vehicle. On their shorter tours you can expect to explore the hills above Luss, overlooking Loch Lomond’s enchanting islands. On the longer tours, the guides will take you through Glen Douglas and on to the rugged hills overlooking Loch Long.

The views you get on a guided are second to none. Stopping off along the way for some spectacular photo opportunities – the perfect spot for upping your Instagram game. Argyll offers some spectacular views that you won’t find anywhere else in the country.

4x4 Adventures also offer Off Road Driving tours, where your experienced driver will teach you about the capabilities of the vehicle and techniques for tackling steep inclines and declines, side slopes and rock crawls, without impacting the natural environment. These trips range from 2 hours to 4 hours, with tours overlooking Loch Lomond and Loch Long.

A day out with 4x4 Adventures is one to remember, and definitely something we’ll be trying again! Remember Argyll Holidays customers get 10% off 2 hour and 4 hour adventures, so why not try something new? You won’t regret it!
