When Ashley Brown and Paul Hayes were looking for a wedding venue, their hearts were set in getting married in beautiful Argyllshire. They visited Drimsynie Estate and fell in love, knowing straight away that it was the perfect backdrop for their special day.

Although Ashley and Paul met at work, their romance took a while to blossom. They met on their first day at a new job, then spent six and a half years not working together at all. Then, the two of them attended a training course and became friends. The pair grew closer when they ended up living in the same village… the rest, as they say, is history.

Originally from Dunoon, Ashely knew that she wanted to have an Argyll Wedding. The only issue with this was finding a place for everyone to sleep! Paul was from England, and the couple currently lived across the border, so they needed to find a place that was able to host their friends and family who would be travelling for the big day.

As we now live in England and Paul’s family are from that area, we knew there would be a lot of people travelling for the wedding. We wanted somewhere with enough accommodation, that had the beautiful Scottish scenery and could host a weekend event across Friday for welcome drinks, Saturday for the big day and a BBQ on the Sunday. [Drimsynie Estate] delivered everything we wanted and more.’

Ashley and Paul had decided on a spring wedding, and booked Drimsynie Estate. The couple felt this was an easy decision to make, and they had no complaints about the weather: ‘We chose an April wedding as it’s outside of midge season but also has some lovely weather. There was a little rain on the morning of the wedding but it cleared up for some pictures later on and was beautiful for the BBQ on the Sunday.’

With a day as important as your wedding day, there are no such things as little details. There are so many important decisions to be made, like deciding on your wedding party (and more importantly, what they’ll be wearing!):

‘We have a lot of close friends, so it is hard to decide. We knew whoever we chose would have done an amazing job. We were so happy with how all our friends and family supported our big day.

‘For the bridesmaids, Ashley was set on pastel colours but open to the bridesmaids choosing what was best for them. Even though Paul is English, he and his wedding party had a great time wearing kilts. Paul had worn tartan before and it looked great on the rest of his party… even if we do say so ourselves!’

Once the wedding party was confirmed, Ashley and Paul had a lot of fun adding some special extras to their wedding. This allowed the couple to tailor their wedding day to their needs, and in the process make it more personal to them! Drimsynie Estate was more that happy to accommodate a more extended celebration, which was perfect for those guests travelling to Argyll for the wedding.

‘We put a lot of time into creating a wedding weekend. Given that everyone was travelling, one of the first things we did was create a welcome pack for everyone – for those in the hotel this had some welcome drinks and for those in self catering accommodation we had a breakfast kit. As this was a weekend event, we had organised separate drinks for each of us at our own lodges on the Friday, the big day on the Saturday and had a BBQ planned on the Sunday. We had multiple suppliers providing amazing decorations, flowers, video and photography for the big day.’

Just like that, after months of planning, Ashley and Paul’s wedding day finally arrived. With everything moving like clockwork, there were no stressed-out brides in this wedding party. Paul, on the other hand, felt a little more rushed that morning…

[The morning of the wedding] for Ashley was relatively relaxed, with a conveyor belt of hair and make up for the bridesmaids and mums before a couple G&Ts. Paul’s was a bit more frantic, after having breakfast with our guests in the restaurant, he had some final touches to do before getting to the bar to meet the guests before Ashley arrived.’

For the ceremony, Ashley and Paul got married in our stunning ceremony room with our beautiful vistas glittering behind them. Opting for a humanist ceremony, the couple reflected on how personal this made their ceremony:

‘We had a humanist ceremony which is written and created all about us. We chose several gestures to make to each other during the ceremony including personalised vows, hand fastening and a sand ceremony. A lot of people commented on how personalised our ceremony was.’

After the ceremony, the new Mr and Mrs Hayes headed off for their wedding photography, and their guests moved to the Rob Roy Suite to celebrate the happy couple. This venue had been transformed to Ashley and Paul’s specifications, and was the perfect venue to party the night away. But first, they had to eat. Drimsynie Estate offers a free tasting session before the big day, so the couple knew exactly what they were choosing for their first meal as a married couple.

‘We experienced a tasting day at Drimsynie so knew exactly what we wanted to have and had chosen each part of the menu before us, as we had gone for a course selection. It was a choice of Scottish produce across all courses providing our guests with some different tastes – including Paul’s favourite – haggis!’

Then the party truly began! Ashley and Paul were able to dance the night away with a live band, accompanied by all of their friends and family. They chose the band Aurora, who they fell in love with after hearing their selection of dance hits, power ballads and even ceilidh hits. They also made the decision to have their guests record video messages, rather than a traditional guest book with RPL Weddings. The couple have loved looking back on these!

All in all, Ashley and Paul Hayes loved their wedding at Drimsynie Estate, feeling looked after from the get go. They appreciated all the extra special additions the team did for them, and the team loved being part of their day!

‘We can’t thank the team at Drimsynie enough – from the set-up, through to the Sunday – they were incredible! We have sent personal thanks to those individuals making our day the best day ever! From the outset, they provided one of Paul’s favourite beers, helped with the delivery of our welcome packs and ultimately became part of the wedding! The whole team told us how much they enjoyed being part of it!

‘IT WAS THE BEST WEEKEND EVER! Drimsynie delivered everything we wanted and more. We would like to thank the whole team for everything that they did for us.’
