Dog friendly holidays in Argyll, Scotland

Our four-legged pals aren’t referred to as man’s best friend for nothing; the bond between owner and pet pooch is like no other. Here at Argyll Holidays we understand dogs become family members, so why would you want to holiday without them?

Dog’s road trip to Argyll Holidays

Scotland Forestry state that their visitors are made up of 43% taking their dogs for a stroll, and that this is in fact the most popular activity above mountain biking and picnicking! So if you’re looking for a place to explore with your dog, but also accommodation where pooch can feel at home, we’re the holiday destination in Argyll for you… We welcome furry members of the family with open arms.

Prepare for the unexpected

Earlier this year it was made compulsory that dogs must be microchipped and owners could face up to a £500 fine if not. Your details on the chip must also be up to date - it’s important to make sure this is done before a holiday with your furry pal. How about a collar with your mobile telephone number? Just in case, it’s best to be prepared!

Helping your dog relax

A change of environment can be quite stressful for your dog, but there are a few ways you can help them settle and begin to enjoy their trip away.
Firstly, try to keep their diet consistent by taking the usual brand of their dog food with you, it will be comforting for them.
It’s also a good idea to bring along your pup’s own bed; familiarity and continuity will help them to settle while sleeping away from home.
Try relaxing music for dogs, it could help them calm… and maybe even do the same for you!

What to pack for the holiday

  • Your dog’s favourite brand of food, you’ll want to keep as much as possible the same for your pooch, it’ll help keep them relaxed.
  • Water bottle and travel bowl for the journey, keeping your doggy hydrated is super important.
  • Poop bags are a must, you will need to make sure you clean up after your little pal; the dispensers which clip to belt loops are really handy too, less chance of misplacing them in a time of need!
  • Depending on where you plan on going, there are places which require dogs to be on leads at all times, so be sure to bring one with you.
  • A bed for your buddy to get comfortable following a full day of fun times.
  • Treats… After all, the pooch are on holiday too! Don’t forget to reward their good behaviour.
  • We recommend packing spare towels for your pooch, paddling in Lochs can be quite a messy business!

Dog friendly activities around Argyll

  • Lochgoilhead Forest is a 5 minute drive away from Drimsynie Estate Holiday Village, and a great place to explore. Dogs are welcome at all forests listing in the Scotland Forestry guide, which is great for ideas to add to your adventure list!
  • The Goil Inn and the Firside Bar now both welcome pooches! Allowing dogs to join guests at The Goil Inn was such a success, we had to roll it out to the Firside Bar too. What’s better than settling down by the fire with a malt whisky in hand and (wo)man’s best friend by your side? We can’t think of anything else right now… sheer heaven!
  • Inverary Jail takes you into the world of historical courtroom and jail experiences of the past. The well preserved buildings give a great insight into the Jail’s past… and you can take your four-legged bud with you to investigate! Your dog will need to be on a lead though, so make sure you remember to take it with you.
