We have been excitedly awaiting our first trip as the Argyll Holidays Active Family 2017/2018 and we all absolutely loved it!!

We were booked into a Royal Lomond Hot Tub lodge for six, so we had my 13 year old daughter Demi and her friend Charley, along with my 5 year old son, Jamie and 5 year old nephew Robbie with us.

We arrived in the evening, in pitch dark.  Having found our lodge, we were absolutely blown away by how stunning, modern, comfortable and spacious the lodge was inside.  It certainly was nothing like the caravan I had been picturing - it was gorgeous!!

We made some dinner in the excellently equipped kitchen with very modern and high spec appliances, before discovering that we all had fluffy white dressing gowns and slippers provided, and it was hot tub time……

Waking up to the view the next morning was amazing.  One whole wall of the lodge is floor to ceiling windows which gives the most spectacular view and we realised we were right on the loch side.

We were then off to Lomond Shores for an absolutely fun packed day.  In addition to the activities planned for us, it was also a St Andrew’s Day Celebration event with Christmas craft and food stalls, pipe bands, dancers, kids rides, Santa’s Grotto and loads more.

The day started with a visit to the Birds of Prey centre.  The staff there were really knowledgeable and you could tell that the birds were really well looked after.  We did a quiz as we walked around and all enjoyed it.

Next we had a walk around the Christmas Market before Steven (who is really not a fan of heights!), Demi and Charley were off to TreeZone, to climb and zip wire their way around the forest.  Some of it was pretty tough going but all three really enjoyed it and managed to complete all of the obstacles over the hour and a half course. It was safe to say that they were thoroughly shattered after that and ready to head back to the lodge to relax in the hot tub.

So after the Birds of Prey and Treezone, it was time to head to the Loch Lomond Sea Life centre, where we watched the otters being fed, then the rays, the boys helped put the starfish away at the end of the day and we enjoyed seeing the sharks, sea horses and all the fish.  The short animated clips in the cinema were really interesting and educational and the view from the lookout at the top of the building was pretty spectacular right along the Loch.

Whilst mum and the girls enjoyed the stalls and lovely shops of Lomond Shores, The boys also enjoyed the Balloon WinterWonderland, meeting Santa and rides, so it really was a fun filled day at Lomond Shores.

It was so nice after a fun packed day to head back to the cosy lodge for a hot tub under the moon and just RELAX………..

We had a very relaxing day on the Sunday.  An early morning hot tub for the boys followed by some cookie decorating while waiting on the girls getting up and really for our day at Loch Fyne Ales.

The views from Loch Lomond Holiday Park are so stunning you would never tire of them.

We were then ready to head to Loch Fyne Ales for some beer tasting and it was a beautiful scenic drive to get there.

The lovely staff there told us about the brewing process, and all about the history of their brewery and about all of the different ales.  We saw all their awards and were given a taste of lots of the different ales.  The boys were not impressed by the smell of the beers and the girls stuck to their hot chocolate.

We eventually narrowed it down to a few favourites before deciding that Avalance was our ale of choice and we were given a case of it to take away along with two Loch Fyne Ales glasses, which was unexpected and just lovely.

After Loch Fyne Ales, we headed back to our gorgeous Royal Lomond Hot Tub lodge to just make the most of our last full day there.

The boys thoroughly enjoyed the play park which was perfectly located right beside our lodge, whilst the girls made the most of some peace in the hot tub.

A nice walk around the park ended abruptly when the boys decided to jump into the loch and then were not happy that their welly boots were filled with freezing water.  Great fun.  Typical boys.

Our last relaxing evening was spent with the girls in the hot tub (AGAIN!) the boys building lego and the adults enjoying some Loch Fyne Ale in front of the lovely fire - utter bliss…..

So, all in all it was a pretty outstanding weekend.  I would never have considered holidaying in Scotland in December, however, my mind has now been completely changed.  We had a great time, it felt festive, yet fun filled and utterly relaxing and I can honestly say that we all absolutely loved it.

We absolutely can’t wait to see what our next Argyll Holidays adventures are and are looking forward to it.  Being the Active Family has gotten off to a fantastic start and we are honoured and grateful for the opportunity.
