Almost a year after their big day, we caught up with Andrew and Emily Campbell, to relive their beautiful autumn wedding at Drimsynie Estate Hotel. Their spectacular wedding is one we’ll remember for years to come, and was our biggest wedding to date.
Andrew and Emily met way back in 2013, when they were both studying at university. We asked Emily what made her choose Drimsynie Estate for their big day, and her answer was simple:
‘We chose Drimsynie as Andrew was born and grew up here. The location is absolutely breath taking. The venue was also a good size as we had a pretty large wedding! Plus having the accommodation on site was a bonus for our guests which meant they could stay and even make a weekend of it.’
Getting married in November wasn’t Emily’s initial plan, but due to the couple’s line of work, it turned out to be the best option for them both. Emily got creative, and managed to pull together a beautiful theme using Autumn as a strong influence:
‘We didn’t really have a theme in mind. I just wanted Autumn colours. This is why we chose burgundy as the main colours through our flowers and table settings. I downloaded Pinterest which is a good app to steal ideas from this is where I got most of my inspo from. I just picked different things and they seem to work together really well. The bridesmaids had a say on their dresses however the final decision was down to me but we all agreed on something that everyone felt comfortable in. The men all wore their own kilts and we hired charcoal jackets to match Andrews. Andrew wore his own family tartan kilt along with a charcoal grey waist coat and jacket which he had all hand made for our day. My bridesmaids also wore Campbell tartan shawls to match Andrew’s kilt.’
In the end, the couple were glad they chose to have their wedding in November, meaning that they could benefit from the dramatic scenery which surrounds Drimsynie Estate for their wedding photography:
‘It felt unique because not many weddings fall this time of the year due to Scotland’s unpredictable weather. However, the day ended up staying dry and we managed to get some cracking photos outside the church up in the hills by the Rest and Be Thankful. The autumn colours are just stunning and make great photos. Going dark quickly at night also made the function room romantic and the fairy lights hanging from the ceiling showed up better because of the darkness outside.’
For their evening reception, the Rob Roy Suite was glittering under a canopy of lights. Andrew and Emily celebrated their first night as a married couple dancing the night away courtesy of their wedding band, joined by their nearest and dearest. The both shared a common highlight of the evening, their first dance.
Andrew – ‘My highlight of the night was the first dance with my beautiful wife. It was also great to see the dance floor full all night because the band Chasing Lights were fantastic. It was lovely to catch up with family and friends.’
Emily – ‘My highlights was defiantly the first dance. We had Walking on the Waves by Skippinish which our band Chasing lights learned to play. It’s not your typical slow first dance song, it’s quite jumpy and really set the tone for the night. It was great seeing all the people we love in one room together having a great time. The ceilidh was good fun too and got everyone dancing.’
Overall, Andrew and Emily look back on their wedding day and agree it was one of the greatest days of their lives. From start to finish, every detail was looked after for them and their guests.
'We both feel that from start to finish Drimsynie have been amazing. From day one with putting the ideas together to the very end. A massive credit to the events team and all the staff who helped on the day. We have had a lot of amazing feedback from our wedding guests. Thank you Drimsynie for making wedding the best day of our lives.'
