I want to arrive early or I want to arrive late
Hotel rooms are ready for 2pm. Self cater accommodation is ready from 4pm. If you choose to drive overnight and arrive at reception expecting to get into your room by 9am - you are going to be disappointed. If you want to arrive early - let us know. We will do what we can to have your room ready but there are other factors at work here - its not always possible. If you arrive after the reception has closed you can collect your keys at the bar area, or the Dolphin Leisure Centre is you are visiting Hunters Quay. Best to phone ahead if you are going to be past midnight.

Do I have to take a ferry to Hunters Quay
No - but its a nice way to arrive. If you are coming from the central belt or the south you can take the scenic longer route via Loch Lomond and the Rest-and-be-Thankful. If you have time to order a discount ferry ticket from reservations priced at £11.00 for a car and up to 5 passengers - its a bargain. Order and pay online www.argyllholidays.com. You can buy a full priced ticket on board. You don't have to book and the ferries run every 30 minutes for most of the day.

Tell me about the midges
Fact - there are midges in Argyll. Fact - people live in Argyll. Fiction - they make life unbearable. Fact - they don't. Depending on what you read, the midge takes on almost mythical proportions. Midges like damp, overcast conditions with no wind. They are seasonal. If you are rough camping then you are going to be bothered early morning and dusk - but in a hotel or self cater holiday they really should not detract from the enjoyment of your holiday. Remember not to leave an indoor light on and the window open at night - its an invitation to unwanted visitors.

Somethings come up and I have to cancel
Cancellation more than 28 days prior to arrival will mean you loose your deposit. Cancellation within 28 days means loss of the holiday amount unless the accommodation can be re-sold. We strongly recommend you take out holiday cancellation insurance. It is your responsiblity to arrange adequate insurance.

Will I get snowed in during the winter
We are not saying it won't happen - we are saying it is highly unlikely. Guests heading for Lochgoilhead have two access roads. On the rare occassion that one road is not open the other road is usable. Although you'll usually see snow on the hills in the winter it is normally clear at sea level.

Tell me about the single track road access to Lochgoilhead
One guests asked if it was big enough to get her pram down. Yes it is. Its big enough to get a bus down as well as articulated lorries with caravans on the back. Single track roads are not that uncommon in the West of Scotland. There are some simple rules. Use the passing places to allow oncoming cars to pass. Pull over and let cars behind overtake. This is a dramatic and scenic way to arrive. Don't rush it, take your time and enjoy it - just remember, let cars behind overtake.

I want to learn to curl
No problem. We have introduced hundreds of guests to the basics of curling. Subject to ice being available there are regular 'Introduction to Curling' sessions. Learn the safe, fun way to play this most Scottish of sports.
